PhiloSonia’s Opening Night Concert presents music inspired by poetry: Stéphane Mallarmé’s scandalous Afternoon of a Faun (Debussy), Emily Dickinson’s evocative Like Rain it sounded till it curved (Takemitsu) and the transformative Verklärte Nacht by Richard Dehmel (Schoenberg). The program also features the famous Sextet from Capriccio, Strauss’ aesthetic debate in the form of an opera.
